At the intersection is a learning hub and subsidiary of Intersex Nigeria. We are dedicated to promoting and advocating for the sexual reproductive health, self-determination, bodily autonomy, and overall human rights of intersex people in Nigeria. Through community building, advocacy, evidence-based research, empowerment, educational and informational resources on intersex-related issues, we engage with the public, partners, stakeholders, and our community. Our goal is to create a society where intersex bodies are not stigmatised and discriminated, and where intersex rights are recognized and respected.
Our Story
A Journey Towards Inclusion and Empowerment for Intersex Voices in Nigeria
At The Intersection – An Intersex Nigeria E-Resource Hub was founded with a vision to create a more inclusive and accepting society for intersex persons in their diversity within and beyond the LBQ movements in Nigeria. Our journey began with a small group of passionate intersex advocates who recognized the urgent need for a platform dedicated to promoting the rights, health, and well-being of marginalised voices. We saw the stigma, discrimination, and lack of awareness surrounding intersex and LBQ issues and felt compelled to take action.
From our humble beginnings, we have grown into a leading intersex-led Non-Governmental Organization. Our work is rooted in the belief that every person deserves to live with dignity, autonomy, and the freedom to express their true selves. We are committed to building a supportive community, conducting impactful advocacy, and providing essential resources and education to both intersex and LBQ individuals and the wider public.
Our story is one of resilience, empowerment, and unwavering dedication to our mission. Through community organising, evidence-based research, and public engagements, we strive to dismantle harmful stereotypes and promote a society where all human rights are recognized and respected.
We envision a future where individuals, regardless of their intersecting identities, have the rights to bodily integrity and autonomy and are free from stigma and discrimination.
As we continue to grow and expand our reach, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating an enabling society that champions the visibility, inclusion, and human rights of intersex and LBQ persons in Nigeria. Together, we are making strides toward a world where diverse voices are celebrated, and intersectional identities are acknowledged and respected.
